Animal lovers, be reassured relocation will lose some of its horror if have a pet. Jetex Ocean Air Ltd, one of the top three in the domestic air cargo sector, has launched what it said was the country's first pet transportation service by an Indian operator.

The cages are being imported from a leading manufacturer in the USA and will be made of fiberglass and soft materials. In addition the cages have unique features like a spill-proof water and nutrient supply system for the animal -release-proof safety latches and related features.

The service is aimed at both the retail market as well as institutional and trade business in this sector, and tie-ups with large employers or corporates may be expected to lead to customized transfer charges.

At present, a family looking at relocation either has to gift the pet away to friends or relatives or have to go through the rigours of erecting a cage based on their own ideas, and then booking the cage for transfer in the cargo hold of aircraft. Under the Jetex plan, the pet will first be medically examined and certified to be fit for travel, then insured and transported from its home to aircraft by other items will be ensured.

Finally, the pet cage will be received at the destination by another handler and a vet before being handed back to the owner. The service will be price on actuals like airfreight and surcharge plus a small levy on account of cage rental and fees payable to handler and vet.
